DON MALONEY TO PLAY IN DANBURY – SORT OF

Danbury WhalersThe Danbury Whalers are proud to announce the signing of forward Don Maloney, Jr. The 23-year-old from New York City is entering his second professional season, having played for the Central Hockey League‘s Arizona Sundogs and the East Coast Hockey League’s Las Vegas Wranglers.

Whalers fans will recognize his name as his father, Don Maloney, played 13 seasons in the NHL with the New York Rangers (11 years) and 38 games in the 78-79 season with the New Haven Knight Hawks. Currently Don Maloney is the General Manger of the Phoenix Coyotes.

The Danbury Whalers have announced that the game with the Cape Cod Bluefins on 10/29/11 which was postponed due to inclement weather has been rescheduled for Sunday, December 4th at 7:35 PM.

Fans who purchased tickets for the game on 10/29 will have their tickets honored for this game. If you cannot attend the makeup date, your tickets will be honored for another game, subject to availability.

Normally, the Danbury Whalers Sunday game time is at 5 pm. The reason for this later start time is so as not to compete with the National Football League schedule. On December 4th, the Jets are on the road at 1 pm and the Giants are at home at 4 pm. The Patriots play in the Sunday night game at 8:30 pm vs. the Colts.

DEFENSE PLAYER MOVES IN DANBURY AND HARTFORD

The AHL transactions page has the news that Brendan Bell has been returned to the Connecticut Whale from the NY Rangers. Bell, 6’1, 205 pounds from Ottawa, Ontario Canada, played in one game for the Blueshirts this season and did not register any points or PIM and was a minus-1.

Meanwhile in the FHL, sources indicate that the Danbury Whalers have traded for defenseman Paul Arnott, a very popular player with the team last season. Arnott, a Holly, Michigan native, had two goals and seven assists in 25 games in The Hat City last season.

WHALERS WATCH – EMIRA AND DANBURY – A MATCH MADE IN HOCKEY HEAVEN

It is the goal of any minor league team to provide affordable entertainment and game-day experiences for the fans, while also acting as a platform for athletes to move up within the world of professional sports. The Danbury Whalers, a Level-A hockey club playing in the new Federal Hockey League, is doing just that.

While it is the goal of members of the Greenville Road Warriors ECHL team to make their way to Hartford to be a part of the Connecticut Whale, the AHL Whale prospects are continuously vying for the opportunity to fulfill their childhood dreams by making it to the NHL with one of the Original Six teams, the New York Rangers.

DANBURY AND ELMIRA MARRY, SORT OF

affiliation logoToday at the Danbury Ice Arena in Danbury, Connecticut, the Danbury Whalers and the Elmira Jackals announced an affiliation agreement between the two organizations.

The Jackals are member of the East Coast Hockey League (AA) and are affiliated on the NHL level with the Anaheim Ducks and Ottawa Senators. Through those affiliations the Jackals are in agreements with the American Hockey League (AAA) affiliates of those clubs, the Syracuse Crunch and the Binghamton Senators. Continue reading
