Team Notes:

–        The Rangers defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins, 3-1, tonight at CONSOL Energy Center to extend their winning streak to four games, and have now won nine of their last 10 games.

–        New York improved to 26-9-4 (56 pts) on the season, including a 14-6-2 mark on the road.

–        The Rangers swept their sixth back-to-back set of the season, and fifth straight, and are now 5-0-1 in the second game of back-to-backs.  Since 2009-10, New York is 26-8-3 in the second game of back-to-back sets, with a 13-5-2 mark on the road over the span.  The Rangers have posted a 10-0-2 record in back-to-back games this season.

TOMORROW’S GAME:

The Rangers will face-off against the New York Islanders on Monday at Madison Square Garden (7:00 p.m.), in their fourth consecutive game against an Atlantic Division opponent. The Blueshirts currently rank first in the Atlantic Division standings, and second in the Eastern Conference, with a record of 21-8-4 (46 pts). The Rangers enter the contest having defeated the Philadelphia Flyers, 4-2, on Friday at Madison Square Garden to extend their winning streak to four games, and are 6-2-0 in their last eight. The Blueshirts have now registered at least one point in 20 of their last 25 games (18-5-2). The Islanders enter the contest with an 11-16-6 (28 pts) record to rank 14th in the Eastern Conference, and have lost six of their last eight games. Following Monday’s contest, the Rangers will face-off against the Washington Capitals on Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Verizon Center (7:30 p.m.), to begin a two-game Southeast road trip.

     Event Summary

Team Notes:

        The Rangers were defeated by the Dallas Stars, 1-0, tonight at Madison Square Garden.  After two scoreless periods, the Stars’ Trevor Daley tallied the game’s only goal with 4:59 remaining in regulation.

        New York is now 17-7-4 (38 pts) on the season, including an 8-3-2 record at home.  The Rangers’ seven regulation losses are tied for the fewest in the league.

        The Blueshirts held the Stars scoreless in two shorthanded situations (4:00), and have now held their opponent scoreless on the power play in four straight games (16-16, 100.0% over the span) while tallying three shorthanded goals during the stretch. The Rangers’ penalty kill is 26-28 (92.9%) in the last nine games.

Hartford Wolf Pack/Connecticut Whale graduates are helping the parent New York Rangers more all the time.

Take Thursday night, in a 5-3 victory over the host Carolina Hurricanes, in which the Rangers rallied from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits.

Former Wolf Pack All-Star right wing Ryan Callahan and defensemen Ryan McDonagh and Michael Sauer each scored, with McDonagh’s tally coming after a tenacious forecheck by Brian Boyle and the two most recent call-ups, John Mitchell and Carl Hagelin, had a bunch of worn-out Hurricanes scurrying to get to the bench, leading to a bad change.

IS CALLAHAN’S NAME IN THE ENVELOPE?

The New York Rangers will name Trumbull native Chris Drury’s successor as captain and two alternate captains Monday.

The leading candidates are former Hartford Wolf Pack players Ryan Callahan, All-Star Marc Staal and Brandon Dubinsky and newcomer Brad Richards, the free-agent plum this year who signed a nine-year, $60 million contract with the Rangers on July 2.

The announcement will be made on the team’s Facebook page, official Twitter (@thenyrangers) and two official web sites, www.newyorkrangers.com and BlueshirtsUnited.com.
