Today at the Danbury Ice Arena in Danbury, Connecticut, the Danbury Whalers announced the team’s complete home and away game schedule. The Federal Hockey League, in its second season will play a 53 game schedule over a 19-week period. The schedule features 27 home games, 25 road games, and one neutral site.

The Danbury Whalers season gets underway with an Opening Weekend of games. The club will drop the puck on Thursday, October 27th, when they take on the New Jersey Outlaws. The Outlaws are coached by former Danbury Whalers Head Coach, Chris Firriolo.

The following night, Friday, October 28th, the Whalers travel to New Jersey to take on the Outlaws in their road opener.

On Saturday, October 29th, the Whalers return to Danbury and will face the Cape Cod Bluefins.

The home schedule breakdowns as follows, there will be 9 Saturday games, 9 Fridays, 2 Sunday games, 5 Wednesdays, and 2 Thursdays. The 53rd game on the schedule is a neutral site game in Lewiston, Maine against the Danville Dashers.

The opponent breakdown for the Danbury Whalers will be New Jersey & Cape Cod 11 times each, Brooklyn 10 times, Vermont 7 times, 1000 Islands & Danville 5 times each, and the defending champion Akwesasne Warriors 4 times.

Home game times for the Danbury Whalers are still to be determined.

Individual game tickets for the Danbury Whalers will go on sale on Saturday, September 10th at noon.

For season ticket holders, the season ticket package at the time it was sold was based on a 30 game home season. With 27 home games scheduled, the Whalers are currently seeking to add additional home dates and or include playoff games as part of the plan. Further updates will be provided.



Danbury WhalersFormer NHLer Butch Goring and Danbury Whalers to Host Adult Hockey Camp

Today at the Danbury Ice Arena in Danbury, Connecticut, the Danbury Whalers have announced that the Danbury Whalers Hockey Club will be hosting a two-day adult hockey camp on Friday, September 9th and Saturday, September 10.  As part of the special event, the team has brought former New York Islanders player and 4-time Stanley Cup winner, Butch Goring, to instruct and coach the participants.

After falling to the New York Aviators in round one of last season’s Federal Hockey League playoffs by a single goal in a game five overtime situation, Whalers hockey has returned to the ice at the Danbury Ice Arena for the second annual free agent tryout camp.

The two day camp held Friday and Saturday was a chance for players with different skill levels and experience take to the ice and show what they are made of in hopes of getting a call back to the Whalers training camp.

Danbury Whalers

The Danbury Whalers of the Federal Hockey League have a new Head Coach for 2011-2012.

While his name is very familiar, it’s not the same guy… although after spending some time talking to him, you get to see that he has the same energy level and demands on those who want to be on the team’s roster.

Howlings spoke to the energetic coach after a 6-2 exhibition split squad game Saturday night at Danbury Arena.


Danbury WhalersThe President and General Manager of the Danbury Whalers, Herm Sorcher announced late Monday that Center, Igor Karlov has resigned with the team to return for the 2011-12 season.

Karlov, a native of Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania, played in all 47 of the Whalers games last season.

Danbury Whalers 2

Herm Sorcher, President and GM of the Federal Hockey League’s Danbury Whalers,  announced Thursday that the team had resigned center, Joe Dabkowski  for the 2011-12 season.

Dabkowski, a native of Manchester, Connecticut, was 6th on the team with 11 goals and averaged almost a point a game with 23 points (11 g, 12a) in 26 games.   The 5’10 180 pounder finished 3rd on the team with a 17.2 shooting percentage.  In the playoffs, Dabkowski added a goal and an assist in 5 games vs. New York in the Federal Hockey League’s Semi-Final round.

Danbury Whalers 2Will Play Rome 1/1/11 in Danbury

Today at the Danbury Ice Arena, in Danbury, Connecticut, Danbury Whalers, Senior Partner & President, Alan Friedman  and Rome Frenzy Owner & General Manager, Brian Hall announced that the two organizations have agreed to switch the Danbury at Rome game on Sunday, 2/6/11 in Rome to Danbury to be played on New Year’s Day Saturday, 1/1/11 at the Danbury Ice Arena. Danbury, CT_This Saturday, November 27th, at 7:05 PM, when the Danbury Whalers take on the Rome Frenzy the team will be auctioning off the official game worn white jersey’s they will be wearing in that night’s game.

Fans can place their bids at the game at the merchandise stand.  The auction will end one minute into game action of the third period.

Fans wishing to place a bid but will not be in attendance, can call in before 3 PM on Saturday to 973-713-7547.


Saturday night is Black Saturday sponsored by HVCASA.  Fans will have a chance to win great prizes throughout the night.  In addition, Danbury based Choice Tickets has four New York Rangers tickets in the prize mix.

“Dr. Hook" Tim McCracken appearing at Danbury Whalers Tonight

Appearance by “Dr. Hook” Tim McCracken

The Danbury Whalers take on the Broome County Barons tonight at 7:05 pm at the Danbury Ice Arena.

There will be a special appearance by Dr. Hook – Tim McCracken. Dr. Hook is the character played by veteran actor Paul D’Amato in the Paul Newman classic film – Slapshot. Dr. Hook’s appearance is sponsored by Sharon Deno Bookkeeping Services.

Dr. Hook will be signing autographs, taking pictures, and there will be an auction for his Syracuse Bulldogs jersey he wore in the movie.

Outside the Box, a band from the Jersey Shore, will be entertaining the crowd pre-game and in between periods.
