ROAD WARRIORS WEEKLY RELEASE – 1/16 TO 1/22/12

After taking two of three games from the Gwinnett Gladiators last week, the Road Warriors have another week chocked full of South Division opponents. With one game under their belt already, the Road Warriors are gearing up for three games in three days to close out the week.

A ROUGH ROAD AHEAD FOR THE WARRIORS

The Greenville Road Warriors begin a busy week (four games in seven days) with a matinee visit to Duluth, Georgia to take on the Gwinnett Gladiators this afternoon.

The Road Warriors (21-14-2, 44 pts.) visit Gwinnett (18-11-9, 45 pts.) today for the seventh of 17 scheduled meetings between the clubs. Fans can follow the action by watching live on America One  or listening at greenvilleroadwarriors.com. The Road Warriors are 4-2-0 this season against the Gladiators and 14-9-0 overall in their history against Gwinnett. Today the Road Warriors will be the early birds trying to get the worm as they play their earliest game of the season. The Road Warriors have thrived on weekday games so far this season and have built an 8-2-1 record on games play Monday through Thursday. On Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays the Road Warriors are a combined 13-12-1. Today is also the final game of four straight between Greenville and Gwinnett. The Road Warriors have won two of the first three with both victories coming in Greenville.

GREENVILLE WINLESS, DROP THIRD STRAIGHT

Greenville Road Warriors VERSUS      Gwinnett Gladiators

DULUTH, GA – The Greenville Road Warriors lost their first road game of the season on Friday night to the Gwinnett Gladiators by a score of 6-1. The loss dropped Greenville’s record to 0-3-0 on the season.

The Road Warriors and Gladiators traded a power play goal each in the opening period as neither team could establish control through the first 20 minutes of play. Gwinnett rookie defenseman Corey Fienhage tallied the first goal of the night with a power play score that beat Jerry Kuhn at 6:42 of the first. Gwinnett’s lead was short lived as Brendan Connolly answered back with his first goal of the season at 8:27. Greenville’s second power play goal of the season was set up by Cullen Eddy and Ryan Hayes. Kuhn made 12 saves in the period while his counterpart Marc Cheverie tallied 14.

ROAD WARRIORS SMOKE GLADIATORS

Greenville Road Warriors VERSUS Gwinnett Gladiators

Greenville, SCThe Road Warriors used a four-goal burst in the second period to route the Gladiators in the final regular season game this season. The Road Warriors had 12 different players register points in the 7-2 victory that clinched the Eastern Conference title in their inaugural season. Greenville ended the regular season with a record of 46-22-4 and 96 points overall.

GREENVILLE, SC The Greenville Road Warriors surged back into the top spot of the Eastern Conference after taking down the Gladiators 4-3 in overtime on Thursday night at the BI-LO Center. Shane Harper netted the game-winner 49 seconds into overtime and improved Greenville’s record to 44-22-4 and 92 points overall.
