TWO NEW DANBURY RESIDENTS

Danbury Whalers 2Danbury Whalers President and General Manager Herm Sorcher announced the signing of forwards Kevin McCready  and Greg Holt for the 2011-2012 season.

McCready joins the Whalers after spending the 2010-2011 season with the Fitchburg State Falcons (NCAA DIII). In 23 games McCready, tallied 15 goals and 13 assists including two game-winning goals. In 49 career games at Fitchburg McCready was nearly a point per game player with 48 points in 49 games. Kevin hails from Poughkeepsie, NY.

Holt is a former Quinnipiac University (NCAA DI) standout. The Mt. Sinai, NY native finished his senior season with the Bobcats in 2009-10 with 30 points in 39 games. During his senior season Holt scored a goal in the fifth overtime against Union in the ECAC tournament. In 144 games with Quinnipiac Holt put up 24 goals and 44 assists for 68 points. Last season Holt split time in the CHL and SPHL.

1ST AND TEN FOR THE DANBURY WHALERS FAN CARAVAN

The latest stop on the Danbury Whalers Fan Caravan is hitting the “1st & 10 Sports Bar and Grill” in New Milford, Connecticut on August 11, combining every hockey fan’s favorite things, team trivia, free food, and beer.

“What we’re probably going to do at this event is … formally release the schedule to the fans and we’re also going to do Danbury Whalers trivia night in which we’re gonna ask 10 questions and the fan who gets all of them right is going to win a Whalers Prize Pack,” said the team’s Assistant General Manager, Keith Lombard.

The Fan Caravan’s combination of team information and freebies is something that team CEO Herm Sorcher and the rest of the Danbury Whalers organization have found to be successful in the past to keep Whalers hockey on the minds of all its fans until the home opener on Oct. 27.

DANBURY SIGNS THREE

Danbury Whalers Sign Trio Vetri, Blanchette & Clark Inked

Danbury Whalers president & general manager Herm Sorcher announced the resigning of Goaltender, Peter Vetri, and Defensemen Adam Blanchette and Chris Clark to return for the 2011-12 hockey season.whalers win

Peter Vetri played in two regular season games for the Whalers last season and won both with a .981 save%, and a 0.50 GAA with one shutout. Vetri started all five playoffs, posting both Whalers wins. In his professional career, Vetri has spent time in the AHL, ECHL, and the SPHL.

THE FULL MONTE IN DANBURY

FHL’s 3rd Leading Goal Scorer Signs with Whalers

Danbury WhalersDanbury Whalers President and General Manager Herm Sorcher has announced the signing of Right Wing Anthony Monte for the 2011-12 season.

In 2010-2011, Monte was a member of the Rome Frenzy, where he served as Captain.  The Chicago, Illinois native finished third in the FHL in scoring posting 30 goals and 27 assists for 57 points.  Monte was 8th in total points, and led the FHL with 3 short-handed goals.  The 5’9, 175-pounder was 4th in the league with 183 shots, tied with former Danbury Whaler Leland Fidler.

Phil Esposito Named Head Coach / Director of Hockey Operations

Danbury WhalersDanbury Whalers President and General Manager Herm Sorcher announced that Phil Esposito has been named Head Coach / Director of Hockey Operations for the 2011-12 hockey season.

“Espo” spent last year as the Whalers Assistant Coach and was part of an organization that promoted 12 players to the American Hockey League (AHL), East Coast Hockey League (ECHL), & Central Hockey League (CHL).  Phil brings eight years of professional playing experience and five seasons of professional coaching.

THE CAPTAIN RETURNS TO DANBURY

Danbury WhalersThe President and General Manager of the Danbury Whalers, Herm Sorcher announced late Monday that Center, Igor Karlov has resigned with the team to return for the 2011-12 season.

Karlov, a native of Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania, played in all 47 of the Whalers games last season.

Corey Fulton Signs with the Danbury Whalers

Danbury Whalers 2Danbury Whalers President and General Manager Herm Sorcher announced Sunday that the team has resigned Left Wing, Corey Fulton for the 2011-12 season.

Fulton, a native of Mississauga, Ontario, played in 34 games last season with 2 goals and 3 assists while leading the Federal Hockey League with 217 penalty minutes.

Fulton was voted by the Danbury Whalers’ fans as the “2010-2011 People’s Choice” as the “Most Popular Player.”

O’MALLEY TO RETURN TO DANBURY

Danbury WhalersDanbury Whalers President and General Manager Herm Sorcher has announced that right wing, Sean O’Malley has signed an agreement to return to “The Hat City” for the 2011-12 season.

The 5’10” 180-pounder along with Igor Karlov & Lucas Schott were the only three Whalers to play in all 47 games.
