Connecticut Whale VERSUS Norfolk

It would have been a perfect night for the Connecticut Whale. The fans were in the XL Center ready for all the excitement and energy to root on their favorite team as well as taking part in the annual, “Shirts-Off-Our-Backs” celebration. For New York Rangers’ fans, all-time great Adam Graves was in the house and took pictures and signed plenty of autographs. It was also a night where they gave out the year end team awards. Nearly a perfect night  had it not been interrupted by the sixty minutes where they actually played the game.

The Whale were sloppy with the puck; played virtually no-defense, took undisciplined penalties and allowed a team that would have been better off losing the game, in terms of their playoff positioning, and on a three-game losing streak and a 1-6-1 run, to push them around in their own building on the final night of the regular season and beat them 6-3…and it wasn’t that close.

Ritola, Jones each score twice in 5-3 victory

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – After squandering two one-goal leads, the Norfolk Admirals used three straight goals to defeat the Charlotte Checkers, 5-2, at Time Warner Cable Arena on Monday.

WHALE WEEKLY: April 4-10 2011

Connecticut WhaleThe Whale (39-30-2-6, 86 pts.) faced three Atlantic Division foes over the past week, dropping a pair of road tilts before finishing the weekend’s action with a victory over Portland at the XL Center. Connecticut was edged, 3-2, by the Providence Bruins on Friday, before falling by a 6-2 score to Springfield on Saturday. The Whale triumphed over the Atlantic Division-leading Pirates by a 4-2 score in Sunday’s contest, allowing them to stay two points ahead of Worcester for the final guaranteed playoff spot in the division. Jeremy Williams and Dale Weise both had two goals during the week, and Mats Zuccarello, just back from the parent New York Rangers, collected four assists in three games.
