MISSIAEN TO THE TOP OF THE LIST – AGAIN

Jason Missiaen of the Greenville Road Warriors is the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Feb. 27-March 4. He also won the award for the week of Dec. 5-11.

The 21-year-old was 3-0-0 with a 1.62 goals-against average and a save percentage of .948 in three appearances last week.

Missiaen made 23 saves in a 2-1 win at Cincinnati on Tuesday and then stopped 27 shots in a 2-1 victory against South Carolina on Saturday. He ended the week by matching his season high with 42 saves in a 6-3 win against Trenton on Saturday.

The Rangers will face-off against the Montreal Canadiens at Bell Centre (7:00 p.m.; TV: NBC Sports Network; Radio: 1050 ESPN Radio), to conclude a back-to-back weekend set against Original Six opponents. The Blueshirts currently sit atop the Eastern Conference standings, and rank first in the league overall, with a record of 28-10-4 (60 pts). The Rangers enter the contest having defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs, 3-0, last night at Air Canada Centre to extend their road winning streak to four games, and are now 11-2-0 in their last 13 games. New York has posted a record of 25-7-2 since Oct. 29, after beginning the season with a 3-3-2 mark. The Canadiens enter the contest with a 16-20-8 (40 pts) record to rank 12th in the Eastern Conference, and have lost their last three games. Following the contest, the Rangers will face-off against the Nashville Predators on Tuesday, Jan. 17, at Madison Square Garden (7:30 p.m.), in their third game in four days.

NEWBURY RECALLED

New York RWith Brandon Dubinsky nursing a shoulder injury and Ruslan Fedotenko suffering from back spasms, Kris Newbury has been recalled from the Connecticut Whale to join the Rangers for their game with the Montreal Canadiens. That’s one long day of travel. A nine-hour ride from Norfolk, VA to Hartford, Connecticut and then a flight up to Montreal for the game with Les Habs. Fortunately for the Whale, they don’t play again until next Wednesday when they travel to Portland for a head-to-head with the Pirates.

The Blueshirts currently rank third in the Atlantic Division standings, and fifth in the Eastern Conference, with a record of 10-3-3 (23 pts). The Rangers enter tomorrow’s contest having defeated the New York Islanders, 4-2, on Tuesday at Nassau Coliseum to extend their winning streak to seven games. The Blueshirts have registered at least one point in 11 of the last 13 games (10-2-1 over the span), including in each of the last eight (7-0-1). The Canadiens enter the contest with a 8-8-3 (19 pts) record to rank 12th in the Eastern Conference, and have lost two of their last three games (1-1-1). Team Notes:

        The Rangers defeated the Montreal Canadiens, 5-3, in an Original Six match-up tonight at Madison Square Garden to improve to 6-3-3 on the season, including a 3-1-1 mark at home.

        The Blueshirts have registered at least one point in seven of the last nine games, posting a record of 6-2-1 over the span.  New York has won each of their last three games.

        The Rangers improved to 8-3-0 in their last 11 games vs. the Canadiens at Madison Square Garden.

        New York notched one power play goal in tonight’s contest, and has now registered seven goals with the man advantage in the last seven games (7-37, 18.9% over the span).
