The New York Rangers and Connecticut Whale have another goalie prospect to keep an eye on over the next few weeks.

Scott Stajcer, the Rangers’ fifth-round pick in 2009 and a possible Whale goalie next season, has led Owen Sound into the Ontario Hockey League championship series for the Robertson Cup starting Tuesday night at the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors in Ontario.

It was a doubly good Tuesday for Connecticut Whale center Francis Lemieux.

Lemieux was released from his second professional tryout contract and signed to an AHL deal before being among the 22 players on the Whale’s Clear Day list. Another recent call-up from the ECHL, rookie defenseman Blake Parlett, was also on the list, while feisty left wing Devin DiDiomete, who leads the AHL in penalty minutes (280), and center Ryan Garlock, a regular before being injured last week, were not included but put on the “in-residence” list.

CROMWELL, CT – The Connecticut Whale bus wouldn’t get into gear after a practice in suburban Syracuse during the team’s only venture into Canada this season to Toronto and Hamilton last week.

But Johnny Davis, a bus driver for 25 years and the team’s chauffeur since the birth of the Hartford Wolf Pack in 1997, solved the problem in 90 minutes after calling his boss at Dattco.

After the forgettable performance/effort in the opener of their only venture into Canada this season, the Connecticut Whale needed a serious gut check Friday night.

They got it from start to finish, scoring on their first two shots and then winning with 1:13 left on a goal by one of their major grinders.

Cleaning out the notebook after cleaning off the driveway and sidewalk in the wake of the record snowfall from Winter Storm Benedict before heading to Washington, D.C., for my first visit to Arlington National Cemetery and the memorial service of local World War II hero Billy Colls:
