BRUCE BERLET REPORTS – RYAN GORDON, A PART OF HARTFORD HOCKEY FOREVER

Phyllis and Barry Gordon thoroughly enjoyed the fourth edition of the Hartford Wolf Pack/Connecticut Whale game to benefit the Ryan Gordon/Connecticut Whale Community Scholars Fund, constantly smiling and sharing tales with friends and supporters.

Donations were accepted at the door of the Koeppel Community Sports Center on the campus of Trinity College in Hartford in lieu of an admission charge, and the Wallingford couple again rooted hard for a Whale victory. It ended with a 3-1 loss to the more experienced Albany Devils, but it was fitting that former Hartford Wolf Pack left wing Chad Wiseman scored the first goal, converting his own rebound on a power play, and assisted on the last tally by Darcy Zajac.

Regardless of the outcome, Phyllis and Barry had a special underlying thought Tuesday night.

WHALE DROP PRESEASON OPENER

      VERSUS

The Connecticut Whale fell to the Albany Devils, 3-1, Tuesday night in their preseason opener at Trinity College’s Koeppel Community Sports Center.

Nathan Perkovich scored the game-winning goal for Albany and former Wolf Pack forward Chad Wiseman had a goal and an assist in the Devils’ win over the Whale. Kale Kerbashian scored the lone goal for Connecticut.

“We’re evaluating players and obviously there’s things from a team perspective that we’d like to do better,” said fifth-year Whale head coach Ken Gernander. “I thought we had a real good hard-working first period. We haven’t worked a ton on special teams and that was a big difference in tonight’s game.”

PRE-SEASON: RANGERS KNOCK OFF DEVILS

 VERSUS     

With an 5-4 afternoon OT win by the AHL bound New York Rangers and a late goal from defenseman Brendan Bell Friday night for a 4-3 win, the Blueshirts completed a double-header sweep of the New Jersey Devils at the Prudential Center in pre-season action. The win for the Rangers avenged a 2-1 overtime loss to the same Devils Wednesday night in Albany and brought the Blueshirts record to 1-0-1-0 after two preseason games.
