The Greenville Road Warriors could not slow down the Kalamazoo Wings on Thursday night as they fell by a 7-2 score at the BI-LO Center. The Road Warriors‘ record slips to 27-18-3 with the loss.

The Greenville Road Warriors announced today that forward Randy McNaught has been loaned to the club by the American Hockey League’s Connecticut Whale.

After beginning the season with the University of Calgary, McNaught signed an AHL contract with the Whale on January 23, 2012. He appeared in one game with the Whale and was held without a point in a 2-1 loss against Springfield on January 28. Prior to making his pro debut, McNaught was scoreless and had 24 penalty minutes with the University of Calgary this season.

The Whale endured another tough week in the opening month of 2012, suffering a defeat to begin the week’s action Wednesday in Portland, 4-2, before beginning a five-game homestand on Friday night in Hartford. Connecticut managed to salvage two points on the weekend, losing in overtime to St. John’s, 2-1, on Friday, before falling to the Norfolk Admirals, 5-4 in a shootout, on Saturday. Despite gathering just a pair of points in the standings, the Whale managed to maintain their hold on first place in the Northeast Division, two points ahead of the Adirondack Phantoms. Scott Tanski scored three times for the Whale this past weekend, while Erik Christensen added a pair of goals and an assist in the week’s action.

Trumbull native Chris Drury’s time as New York Rangers center and captain is on the verge of ending.

Multiple sources have told the New York Post that Rangers president and general manager Glen Sather has informed Drury that he will be bought out of the final year of the five-year, $32.05 million contract he signed as a free agent on July 1, 2007. The same day the Rangers signed center Scott Gomez to a seven-year, $51.5 million contract, but he was traded to the Montreal Canadiens on June 30, 2009 in a deal that included defensemen Ryan McDonagh and Pavel Valentenko, who started last season with the Connecticut Whale.
